Mineral
foundation has never been something that I have drawn to. I know that lots of
people love it and swear by it, but I was never sure. I finally caved and tried
it. I know that Bare Minerals is supposed to be really good and considering it
is a specifically mineral brand I thought that it was a good place to start.
I
picked up a small sample size as it’s not particularly cheap and it would be a
shame if I hated it. I am going to be doing a week’s trial where I share my
thoughts with you.
Day 1
I
applied my concealer first and then the foundation with my real techniques
expert face brush. Think I applied too much and it looks really dry and
powdery. I decided that the expert face brush was not the way to apply it so
tried with the Mica cosmetics foundation brush (mine is a mini from a set).
This brush picks up powder products really well and it defiantly looked better.
I’m still not sure though.
At
the end of the day it looked much nicer and dewier, but not greasy, which often
can be the end result when you’re wearing liquid foundation.
Day 2
Today
I tried it as a setting powder over my foundation to see the difference between
this and honestly it looked the same as my usual setting powder. However, it
did keep me matte and added a bit of coverage. But, I wouldn’t use this as a
setting powder again. I think it’s better as a foundation on its own rather
than as a setting powder.
Day 3
Today
I tried it on its own again with my concealer underneath. I used my concealer
underneath as generally you shouldn’t layer creams over powder. I applied it
again with the Mica foundation brush, and really liked the results. It looked
less powdery and dry than before and made my skin look really flawless. The
minute I applied it, I could see the difference.
Currently
I am suffering from a bit of a breakout and sometimes spots just won’t be
covered up. I applied the foundation with a small brush (Eco tools concealer
brush) over a blemish to see how it covered it. It actually did really well.
Although my spot wasn’t 100% hidden, I could definitely see the difference.
The
lasting power was pretty good and as I said before, I just looked dewy and
radiant by the end of the day, although still a more little shiny than I would
like.
Day
4
Today
I tried the foundation same as yesterday, but without concealer underneath. My
skin didn’t look flawless (as usual!) but it did look natural and seamless.
However, my skin did feel kind of clogged, which wasn’t what I was expecting.
But it did look natural.
Day
5
Although
I still don’t think I am obsessed with mineral foundation- I am definitely a
convert! When I was researching it a bit more, I found come reviews saying that
it helped prevent breakouts. While it hasn’t got rid of my blemishes, it definitely
hasn’t made it any worse.
My
overall summary of mineral foundation:
- It looked natural and seamless
- Can look cakey and powdery if over applied though
- Looks better after a few hours
- No real skincare difference for me(although I will let you know if it does improve)
I
really hope that this 5-day trial/first impressions style post was interesting
and if you would like me to cover any more products then please let me know- I
really want some reccomendations!
