Getting the perfect lip-gloss formula is a toughie. While you want it to be creamy and pigmented, you don’t want it to be sticky and uncomfortable. The Maybelline elixirs have been out for ages in the US and I really wanted one. They have beautiful and expensive looking packaging, without the ridiculous price tag. This review is going to be telling you why I love them so much.
Let’s
start with the packaging. It’s in a silver and clear plastic tube with a fake
lipstick bullet inside. It looks as I said already, beautiful. It reminds me of
the Dior lip-glosses, but only £6.99!
The applicator
is just as incredible. It is flat, wide and in a ‘heart shape’. It applies the
perfect amount of product onto your lips- not too much or too little.
I think
the colour selection is really nice with a mixture of bolds and more natural
shades. The range is really wearable for a lot of skin tones, with pinks, neutrals
and bright colours. I have ‘blush essence’ which is a nice everyday pink and ‘raspberry
rhapsody’ which is a bold purple, great for the autumn and winter months. I don’t
think the names are amazing, but they’re ok.
The actual
formula is gorgeous. It’s smooth, non-sticky and pigmented. It’s not only that
but also moisturises the lips, which lip-gloss doesn't always do. It’s creamy
and gives a silky finish to the lips. I will stop rambling now- I could be here
all day.
While
the fragrance isn’t overly overwhelming, it does smell really sweet and floral.
I don’t mind the scent but it might not be for everyone. In terms of lasting
power I find it’s around an hour. That’s standard time lasting time of lip-gloss
on me, but I did find that the purple left a slight stain behind which was
impressive.
As you
can probably tell, I love these lip glosses. If you have been dying to get your
hands on one in the UK like me, then they are available at Boots and Superdrug
for £6.99.
