Strobing and shimmer

Suddenly highlighting without the contour has become immensely popular. Highlighting or, strobing as it has now been dobbed, has exploded in the western beauty world. First paired with contouring, strobing took on a new role as its rise to fame in fashion week- it's all about healthy looking skin. Stars such as Kendall Jenner and Jessica Alba have been seen to rock this look since- and the beauty world exploded. Shimmer is here, there and everywhere. Here's my take on it...

LIQUID:

Personally, I have always been a fan of highlighter and a bit of shimmer and glitter introduced into my make-up look. I tend to pair the highlight with some dewiness, so prefer to use liquid formulas.

Benefit's iconic High Beam is ideal for this look. A creamy, iridescent pink adds an incredible glow to the tops of the cheekbones. If you prefer a golden glow, try Sun Beam or Body Shops Skin Focus Face Illuminator for a bronze sheen.

Stripe a little of your preferred shade on to the tops of the cheeks, cupids bow and brow bone. You can also add a little onto the bridge of the nose, centre of the forehead, tip of the chin and the lid area. This will really amp up the definition. Only apply a little at a time as this will ensure seamless edges and a well blended complexion.

You can leave it here, or build up the glow further. Alternatively you could apply a liquid highlighter under foundation, mixed with a primer or foundation. This would insure a glow all over, which isn't for everyone.

POWDER:

For oily skin, powder is a much safer option, to avoid a greasy or sweaty finish. Using loose powders, you have a finer finish, leaving a natural and soft effect to the skin- air brushed rather than disco ball.

Radiance pearls are available from a range of brands, some favourites from Avon and Body Shop. Sweep a touch of these just at the top of the cheeks for a luminous shine. If over done they can be O.T.T, but applied sparingly they look stunning.

If you fancy giving strobing a go, but without buying an individual highlighter, brush a little of your favourite eye shadow highlight over the tops of the cheekbones for a similar effect. This gives you more options too- matte, satin or shimmer.

BLUSH:

Rather than choosing a highlighter, by introducing a hybrid of highlight and blush, it becomes far more wearable and subtle. This option is for those who feel cautious towards highlighter or simply want something simple. One of my favourites is from Bourjois- 'Golden Rose'.

DEW:

Some may prefer to highlight shimmer free and instead add some moisture. Dab a touch of your favourite moisturiser or lip balm onto the cheekbones and blend lightly, not to disturb the foundation.

I like to pair this glowy look with flushed cheeks, a little bit of liner and a glossy lip. If you have been shy to try highlighting before, why not try this new method of highlight without the contour!
