I
find concealers a real nightmare. Some are so sheer they don’t cover anything
and some are really heavy, cakey and drying. This is a review of four that are
under £10, I hope that this is helpful.
The first is the very popular
Collection lasting perfection concealer which currently retails at £4.19. Two
of my friends have this and whenever I go into Boots, they’ve all been opened
or sold out. So when I saw one with tape around, I grabbed it. It does have
good coverage, but often my spots are still showing through. It’s already quite
dry and cakey and if you try to build it, it goes REALLY cakey and gross and
it’s just not cute. I don’t like this for dark circles. I should also mention
that I have combination skin, oily with dry patches (generally around my nose).
On dry skin this is a big no-no, however for oily skin its ok. I’m not quite
sure why it’s so popular?
The
next concealer is from 17 and it’s called the hide away concealer stick (I
think it’s now called the miracle matte concealer stick now). I got it in fair,
which I believe is the lightest shade. It’s got quite a strong orange undertone
and doesn’t have brilliant coverage, but then again it’s not very cakey. It’s
£3.99 so is quite affordable. This isn't awful but it’s not the best.
The
concealer that I would recommend for spots and dark circles, is the L’Oreal
true match concealer. When I first started using this I wasn’t a fan at all. As
you can see from the picture I’m pretty much finished and do like it a lot more
than I did when I first started using it. It’s quite light and creamy with a
really blend able texture and not cakey at all. It is quite buildable, but if you have
a really horrible spot it probably won’t cover it. But for every day, it’s
really good. It costs £6.99, which more than the other two I’ve mentioned
above, but I do feel concealer is an important step, and I think it’s the best pick out of them all for spots.
My
favourite of the bunch is the Garnier roll-on anti dark circles concealer/
Garnier skin naturals BB eye cream skin perfector eye roll on (a long name
right?!) this has very light coverage so if you have serious bags check out the
L’Oreal one. This is a light, but quite buildable, concealer that is like a
cross between and eye cream and a concealer. You could use this over a
corrector or on its own. If you have any redness, it’s good to reduce that.
It has a metal roller ball that’s really cooling under the eyes and it’s
also awesome if you put it in the fridge. At £9.99 it is quite pricey
considering its not high end, but I really like it.
I
blend all of these with my fingertips sometimes, but generally with my
eco-tools concealer brush, which is amazing!
I hope
that this is helpful; I know how hard it is trying to get the right concealer.
